My 2 cents on Cataclysm

So I’m sure a few of you are like me and keeping a close eye on what blizzard is doing with the changes in Cata. And for one I’m not sold on it at all. The total overhaul of the Death Knight class was disappointing and the extreme change to the hunter class is mind boggling. I understand tweaking of classes, but the Death Knight class may as well be a brand new class. I can’t really comment about how the hunter changes will effect the class but if its like the Death Knight. We will be spending LOTS of time on training dummies figuring out how to play again. I guess my question is for other Death Knights and hunters. Is it worth the time? Do we really want to spend months of reading and testing just to figure out what works best and what doesn’t?

I’m also disappointed to see Blizzard is taking all those nice heirlooms items we picked up this expansion and maxing them out at lvl 80, they are then going to put new ones in that will replace those for lvl 85. But at the same time turn around and release that some heroics will not be in game at time of release. And that path of the titans has been totally removed. Has blizzard pushed them self to put to much into this expansion?

I find myself now questioning not only if this expansion will be good for the game, but asking myself if l really even want to play it. I’m 99% sure l will but wonder if it will keep my attention like WotLK did. So many changes and so many things being removed and only a increase of 5 levels. They added around 1000 quests in WotLK but have added 3000+ for Cata. Though many will be happy to see more quests, all l see is they will require us to have so much more XP to gain a lvl that they have been forced to add more quests.

We all knew one day this game would break it self or the designers would push some changes to far. I believe this might just be that time. Mages getting Heroism? What was the point of this. If Hero is something you need in a raid get a shaman. Mages just getting this skill is only one example of piss poor design coming from the blizzard camp. But its also a sign that Blizzard is going to push us to more of a 10 man raid set up. 25 man raiding may as well be done. Though some will still do it and stick to the fact that its better.

Anyways, these are just a few of my many worries with the coming expansion and am wondering if anyone else has seen things that make them wonder what will happen.

Cata isn't the end of the world, just the end of the world as we know it.

Shit's not coming out live til november and until it's right around the corner I'm not going to sweat it. If that's the case where everyone's shitting their pants over class changes this early on, then whatever I guess lol.

Every expansion we QQ about this and that.... Yet, we are still here playing, feeding our addiction. We need change to make things interesting. Look how boring the game has gotten right now these many months since the last patch. I agree that WoW is probably on its way out, but I have yet to find something else to replace it. It will likely be the next gen MMO that blizz is coming out with Soon™.

And yes l know we need changes. And l'm all good with change, I'm just worried with the amount of changes they are putting in. Then turning and canceling content and telling us certain things will not be in at time of release.

Path of the Titans wasn't really something I was very excited about anyhow. Guild talent trees make little sense when most guilds aren't soley focused on one thing. Alot of pvp players also are in hardcore raiding guilds... So being in a raiding guild would limit them in pvp or vice versa. Also can you see the drama over what talents get taken or not... between all the players in the guild. I can't imagine. lol

Also delaying some content between patches is a good idea. I think adding the ToC 5man and the 3.3 5 mans was a great idea. That way you can still go out and do a 5man with a higher difficulty and not the same old heroics you have been running for a year.

I'm with you in most of what you're thinking/typing Havic. I am also with you on the Star Wars Old Republic MMO. Falkens and I had a conversation about it the other day and we are both signed up for beta testing.

I also look forward to the new Final Fantasy MMO, but I know not everyone can get into the FF series....FFXI was a miserably fun time.

But I think all these changes with Cata could really backfire in the long run. I guess we wait and see.

My biggest problem with Cat is that they think they can make 10s even in difficulty with 25s. In the end they will probably end up making 10s harder than 25. Having achievements count for either will likely make World/US/Server firsts a complete joke and alot of people play just to get those.

They can cut 25mans entirely and I would not be bothered in the least. Long live the 10man! No one likes getting a class overhaul once they are comfortable with their abilities and priorities etc. I am not going to count out Cataclysm till it releases. I am content to just wait and see where the chips land. However, that said I was disappointed to hear that some of the stuff previously mentioned was going to be delayed till later too.

I love doing 25s, but cutting them would definitely make more sense.

I have played many MMO's almost to many to mention and one thing has always stayed true. When you take a game that has been around along time then decide to mix things up as much as blizzard is the end result is never good. Takka and I both came to Warcraft after a combat patch came to Everquest 2 and just destroyed the game. It never fully recovered and many Strong supporters of the Song Everquest line left and came to WoW. This is also the same thing that happen in Star Wars Galaxy. The only difference is blizzard marketed Warcraft right and has hooked people in so bad they will never look for another game/mmo. The coming months are going to be very interesting.

And from the sounds of it lots of us are going to be getting into Knights Of the Old Republic. So will have to make sure we all get on the same server.


Also is there anyone already certain they are going to be changing there focus to something different in cata. I'm 50/50 right now between my Paladin or Death Knight. Going to depend heavily on the changes made to the DK.

Im pretty sure I'll be switching to my new warlock and just doing pvp. I've had enough raiding and the drama that surrounds it to last me a lifetime.

Warlocks are gimp roll a pally and own face!

I'm not worried about Cataclysm. Like every mod to the WoW there has been some good and some not-so-good. Ideas and changes that seem alien now may actually be fun and refreshing. I can't wait for it to come and to have some new goals and achievements to attain. That being said ...

When Star Wars The Old Republic gets released ~ Warcraft what?
